My Winter 2 Spring Skin Care Regimen for Oily/Combination Skin

My Winter 2 Spring Skin Care Regimen for My Oily to Combination Skin

Before I begin, here’s a little background on my skin. (Haha! That rhymes) I am currently 25 years old and have had a long history of dealing with mild to severe acne. I’ve been to several dermatologists who have recommended a wide range of different prescription products to cure my blemishes. It’s only been recently where I’ve found a mix of over-the-counter, prescription and beauty products that have gotten my skin smooth, clear and close to where I’ve always dreamt it would be. To think, it was around last year this time where I felt the need to ALWAYS throw on some type of make-up to cover-up the bumps and unevenness of my skins’ appearance. This process took a lot of trial and error especially with the transition of seasons throughout the year. In New York, when it’s’s HOT and when it’s cold, it’s FREEZING! So a moisturizer that may work for you in the summer, may not do a darn thing in the winter especially if you’re in an oily skin or dry skin category.

I would say the combination of the products in my current regimen help battle my acne, prevent those hard to reach blackheads, even out my skin complexion and moisturize to keep my skin glowing. So let’s get into it!

So in the morning, after struggling to roll out of bed, the first thing in my skincare routine is to wash my face with a gentle cleanser. I use First Aid Beauty’s Cleanser that I bought from Sephora to get rid of any oils that may have transferred from my hair to my pillowcase to my face. I then pat dry with a clean towel and apply the Truth Serum Collagen Booster by Ole Henriksen to my skin. This serum is jam packed with Vitamin C that brightens, nourishes and supports natural collagen production. Following that, since I can’t leave the house without some form of moisturizer on my face, I use Cetaphil’s Moisturizing Cream. It’s pretty light, unscented and is extremely great for sensitive or acne prone skin. Next, I use my Rx Benzoyl Peroxide Gel on any problematic areas, which for me are my cheeks, neck, forehead and my temples. And to finish off I use Too Faceds’ Primed and Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer. I love this stuff! It’s formulated to achieve the look of flawless skin without makeup. Application is extremely smooth and helps combat oil and shine throughout the day. I don’t wear makeup on a day-to-day basis but when I do, my application would begin after the primer.

Aaah! Now for my favorite part of the day. I don’t know about you all, but I love coming home from work and unwinding with a nice warm shower and turning on a good tv show! I hop in the shower and lather up my face with First Aid Beauty’s Cleanser to get rid of all the surface dirt and grime that’s been floating in the New York City air. (Yuck). I then squeeze a nickel sized dollop of Garnier’s Clean+ Blackhead Eliminating Charcoal Scrub on my Clarisonic Smart Profile. I was previously using the Mia1 but have recently upgraded to the Clarisonic Smart Profile and don’t think I’ll ever be turning back. The settings automatically set a timer that delegates 20 seconds to your forehead, 20 seconds for your nose and chin, 10 seconds for one cheek, and 10 seconds for the other cheek with beeps in between to indicate when to switch. I follow-up by gently applying my Dermatologist Rx AVAR Cleanser with the palms of my hands for 30 seconds and then rinse it off. Once I get out the shower, I like to let the water sit on my face until it dries on its own. It makes me feel as if the moisture is seeping into my skin. To finish, I use Clinique’s Repairwear Sculpting Night Cream in moderation and apply my Rx Tretinoin Cream 20 minutes after my moisturizers application.

I like to think of my Sundays as a mini “Spa-Day” where I deep condition and blow out my hair, paint my toenails, shape-up my eyebrows, and rejuvenate my skin. Here’s what I do for an extra touch of care to my face. After following steps  N1 – N3 in my Night Routine as seen above, I whip out my PMD Microdermabrasion tool. Please note, that I use this on CLEAN, DRY and UNMOISTURIZED skin like noted in the manual. Microdermabrasion is a treatment that “accelerates the rate at which dead skin is exfoliated, and jump-starts the proliferation of new skin cells.” Once completed, I use a Witch Hazel coated cotton ball to wipe my skin clean before applying my night cream and Tretinoin Cream.

What may this be? This is my handy dandy….Blackhead Extractor by Tweerman. It’s used for deep deep cleaning and can be painful if not used correctly. This blackhead extractor helps remove both whiteheads and blackheads. The thin, angled loop is perfect for rolling out mature whiteheads while the other side is designed to be flat for pressing out blackheads. I ONLY use this tool straight out of the shower on problematic areas where I know a blackhead is having some trouble reaching the surface. If you have sensitive skin, I would ask a dermatologist before using this tool.

And that covers it all! As the weather changes and we begin to transition from Spring into Summer, I will be sure to update this regimen. I hope you stay tuned for that!

I hope you enjoyed & thanks for stopping by!

Oh yea! And don’t forget to follow me!
